The 2012 Boston Marathon will go down in the race's history as one of the hottest marathon. Over 4,000 runners decided not to run it, and nearly 1,000 were unable to finish. How hot was it? The race started out at 84 degrees and reached 89, forcing runners to hydrate early and often and do whatever that could to avoid heat stroke. Only eight RIRR runners braved the heat, and one of them, Matt Sherman, was able to break four hours (3:59:27). The other seven had times that were nowhere close to what they normally run, but hats off to everyone for giving it their all and coming out of this in one piece!

He had an excellent race at the inaugural Exeter Marathon two years ago and delivered once again when the marathon switched towns and became the Narraganasett Marathon last April. This year, Kevin McCoy turned in another spectacular finish at the Narragansett Marathon by producing a 3:33:18 time that gave him his third straight BQ in this event. Nice job, Kevin!

The month of March saw two club runners record superb PRs. Jack Howley delivered a 4:26:26 at the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach, Va. on March 18 and drank plenty of delicious Yuengling beer for his accomplishment, and 13 days later, Eric Benevides (yeah, that's right, the guy who wrote this) was good for a 4:08:15 at the Sand Beach Marathon in Hurricane, Utah!

Mike Vallee is Boston-bound in 2013! After a truly exceptional 2011 that saw him run in five marathons in five different New England states, Mike kicked off his 2012 marathon campaign by clocking a 3:22:20 at the Hyannis Marathon. Magnificent, Mike!
