3-PERSON TEAM RELAY WALK
--Pick
a unique name for your team.
--Each
leg of the relay will be approximately 3 miles
--Each
team will be responsible for their own transportation to the two
transition zones which will also be water stops and staffed by
volunteers. Please try to minimize any congestion at these
zones by timing your arrivals and by parking off the road to allow
normal traffic flow.
--You
may choose to walk or to run: if you plan to run, you may choose to
start your first “runner” at 10AM rather than 9:15
when the walkers begin.
RUN THE RESERVOIR 15K PUTS YOUR
FEET
ON FORBIDDEN GROUND
This
first time race in Scituate (RI) gives area runners an opportunity that
has never before been offered them: run a race within the
bounds of the Providence Water Supply Board’s managed
forest. Despite the fact that most of the 15K course does
travel paved roads (like most road races we participate in), it should
be of great interest to most RI’ers as a rare chance to
“legally cross” those familiar yellow: no
trespassing” signs visible along all roads within the
Scituate Watershed.
The course, a counterclockwise loop from
Danielson Pike just west of North Scituate Village, quickly enters the
forest at mile one via a wide and cushy firelane. Two miles
later (at relay exchange zone #1) runners are ushered onto Plainfield
Pike and begin their 1/2 mile trek across the water. Now
it’s time to get to work: a 150 foot climb winding your way
up to “Suzie Q” corner and the junction of Rt.
116. The remaining 1/2 of the course is a continuous gentle
downhill back to near water level, an occasional American eagle
swooping overhead, and enough time to develop your own forest
management plan for the trees guarding RI’s #1 source of
quality water. Stop day dreaming! Watch those corners getting
through the village and make sure you have enough oomph saved up to
look good at the finish just over Rainbow Bridge on the edge of town
where you began.If
you aren’t up for the whole 15K yourself, grab a couple of
teammates for the relay (run or walk – early start); it may
not be competitive, but your team will be timed and there may be a few
whacky awards available. The cost is the same per runner
(unless you get carried away soliciting sponsor money for your team,
and I would not discourage anyone from that option -- supporting a
great cause).Come
and celebrate the First Ever, and come back in 2018 for your 10th try.by
